2022 Aloha Rasta

Aloha Rasta was a fun design that embodied the spirit of surf, aloha, rasta, and the laid back beach life from Hawaii to Jamaica. I created two versions of the logo for the owner. The first one features wave crests topping the “A” in each word to specifically draw reference to the fact that it’s a surf company. Along with the islands of Hawaii and the colors of the Jamaican flag throughout, the duality of each location is represented in “Aloha Rasta.” The second logo version features a thicker typeface that internally exhibits the Hawaiian flag graphics & colors in “Aloha” and the Jamaican flag colors within the word “Rasta.” Both versions ended up being embroidered on apparel and for racing sponsorship.

Paradigm, Inc. created a sister company – an Integrated Government Services (IGS) Company – called @Gov to handle digital apostille & document processing. @Gov’s main software platform is called ApostilleXpress (AX). To launch this company and its software, my skills were “engaged” through Paradigm to perform creative services for @Gov. Working with the C-Suite and the IT team, including UI/UX designers, we created the logo and visual brand. From there, I created brand guidelines, iconography, business card & print design, a preliminary informational website, brochures, presentations, preliminary UI/UX wireframes for the ApostilleXpress platform, designed digital & print apostille forms for multiple states and institutions, and designed invoices/receipts for the platform, and more. At this point I basically had the responsibility of being the Creative Director for two companies simultaneously, with a great deal of responsibility on both fronts. While I’m limited on showcasing my full body of work with @Gov due to signing a Non-Disclosure Agreement, I’ve included a small sampling of design work that has been publicized.

I joined Paradigm in the summer of 2021 as their Creative Director. As a one-person department, I was responsible for wearing many design hats in design and marketing. My responsibilities included a company-wide brand refresh, trade show display redesign, presentation design, website redesign, brochure design, business card & print design, digital ad design, social media design, survey formatting & design, copywriting & editing, press releases, illustration, video compilation & editing, promotional design, and basically anything touched by our branding. As a company in the higher education industry, Paradigm was a member of The American Association for Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO), which holds a major annual conference for higher education. In conjunction with our Sales team, I was responsible for marketing and helping to coordinate logistics for collateral and shipping for the national conference. While I’m limited on showcasing my full body of work under Paradigm due to signing a Non-Disclosure Agreement, I’ve included a small sampling of design work that has been publicized.

My client really wanted to make a statement with a custom-designed Bar Mitzvah package to send to family and friends, inviting them to join the celebration. I designed a save-the-date, a matching invitation, stickers to go on the outside of the packages (one for Bar Mitzvah, one for Birthday), a custom face mask, custom-designed playing cards to match, an accordion-style Chanukah Blessings card, personalized Thank-You notes from the family, an event schedule, and a special personalized program booklet outlining the entire Bar Mitzvah Service from start to finish. Before the pandemic, I never imagined that my design portfolio would come to include a “face mask,” yet COVID-19 has definitely changed the way the world operates, including having an interesting impact on design jobs.

A client had been doing family history research and came across a very old photo, generations old, and very precious. Unfortunately the actual photo had been ripped in half due to wear & tear, so the client reached out to me to see if it was something I could fix and restore for their family. I was absolutely ready and willing to take on this challenge, spending hours of painstaking work to recreate the delicate crochet pattern of the girl’s frock, while also restoring the rest of the image along the tear line. I also adjusted the levels of the image, cleaned up a lot of the “dirt” marks, yet left a little bit of the fade around the edges to still give the image that cherished, authentic “antique” quality the client was after.

A budding equestrian facility near me was up and coming, so with a shared passion for everything equine, I offered my services to assist with their website. Creating a clean, easy-to-navigate, professional site with basic information and programming, I outfitted their website head-to-toe with the owner’s own stellar photography, meaning nothing on this site is stock, but all 100% representative of their lovely farm, gorgeous horses, and amazing purpose in the Camden equine community.

The original “logo” for Patriot Ridge Horse Farm was based on the hanging sign at the entrance to the farm’s drive. It was strictly a sign design, that is, until I recreated it into a vector logo. The client wanted to brand the farm’s identity with this same image since the outline of the horse is that of the owner’s own heart horse, Monster, who is the inspiration behind Patriot Ridge.

2020 went down in history as a challenge, not just for our congregation, but for our entire planet as we were plunged into a worldwide pandemic when COVID-19 took hold. The pandemic meant shutting the physical doors of our building and migrating our services, programming, and information online through our website, social media and Zoom. Being digitally connected became not only emphasized, but a necessity in the face of the pandemic, as we learned to creatively maintain Ohef Sholom Temple’s congregational community online. Our social media platforms were instrumental in reaching our congregants, as well as digitally distributing our monthly publication for everyone to stay updated on all Temple-related news. My goal for Bulletin designs in 2020 was to visually provide congregants with a sustainable connection to their Temple and community, offering content of hope, faith, love, and the semblance of comforting familiarity in a world turned upside down.
